Karibu House Wine Dinner

LSS/Karibu House

Program Description

Mission:

LSS/Karibu House believes that building and maintaining a positive and caring relationship with youth is essential in empowering them to make healthy choices that affect their lives. By allowing active participation in placement planning and through encouraging parental involvement, youth are provided a safe and supportive environment in which the opportunity to become successful contributors in the community is fostered.

Program Goal:

It is the goal of Karibu House to establish effective relationships with youth enabling them to make appropriate choices for their future. Each youth is assigned a primary Youth Worker who works closely with the Program Manager in developing a meaningful case plan to address the youth's weaknesses as well as enhancing the youth's existing strengths. Individual meetings with the primary Youth Worker occur on a twice-weekly basis and family counseling is available per need. Peer support groups and topic specific groups are conducted daily.

Program Specialization:

LSS/Karibu House specializes in working with males and females ranging in age from 10-17 who are emotionally and behaviorally disturbed and who have had previous failed placements, or youth who are having active problems in their current settings and this would constitute their first placement away from their home. LSS/Karibu House has also had success in transitioning youth that have completed residential treatment to their homes or a less restrictive setting such as foster care.

In addition to regular group home programming, Karibu House offers an Independent Living Skills track which prepares youth to live on their own through weekly groups and other projects focusing on financial management, banking with checking and savings accounts, self care, employment, career options, continuing education, transportation, insurance (home, health and auto), health and wellness and recreation/leisure.

Emergency shelter care is provided for Anoka County and 72 Hour Holds can be accepted from all Counties.
